How Was your Black Friday?

My most-anticipated black Friday purchase was a new Kindle Fire. I’ve had my old one for over six years, and while I can still read library books and most e-books from Amazon on it, it wasn’t compatible with newer apps, including Scribd, which I pay for and recommend for any avid reader or audiobook listener (especially if your local library isn’t with the times).

My new Kindle Fire is a thinner, sleeker version complete with Bluetooth, a speaker, cameras, integration with GoodReads, text narration, Prime Video and Music and more. I spend only $30 on it, which is amazing considering the features and how much my original cost (over $100).

I spent a bit of money on nail polish, too. I took advantage of $5 and free shipping options from Julep. I happened to notice that one of the sellers I was following on Etsy had a sale going on and picked something up from there.

Perhaps what is more important is what I didn’t buy. I recently purchased Super Mario Oddysey with a Best Buy gift card. I had wanted to purchase it over the weekend, but they don’t do any price matching over cyber week, so it had to wait. While other stores had sales on it, Best Buy did not.

I was also looking forward to sales from my favorite beauty brands, especially Urban Decay. I picked up some lipstick last year with samples that I am still using. Unfortunately, they didn’t have a great lipstick deal, at least, not on the colors I wanted.

It’s not like I didn’t want to buy anything. I added things to my cart and refreshed my browser and checked my emails almost constantly. I spent a lot of time checking Dealspotr (find out how to make money with them) as well as adding deals, which helped me accrue several gift cards over the weekend.

It seems like Black Friday used to be full of great deals but as it starts earlier and has started to bleed into Cyber Monday, the deals aren’t as great. I bought a few things before without worrying that there would be better deals on Friday. I watched as Lane Bryant posted sales that were worse than those from a week before Black Friday. I saw retailers quickly jack up their prices and provide 40% coupons despite always providing coupons for 40% off on lower base prices.

It feels ironic that there are more things on my to-buy list after the supposed best sale day of the year than there were before Black Friday.

Of course, it could just be that what I wanted wasn’t what was big this year. I’d love to hear if my readers found any good deals or even skipped out on Black Friday shopping altogether. Feel free to sound off in the comments!
